Biofunctional Peptide FNIII14: Therapeutic Potential
نویسندگان
چکیده
Biofunctional peptide FNIII14, which is derived from the 14th fibronectin (FN) type III-like (FN-III) repeat of FN molecule, capable inhibiting cell adhesion to extracellular matrix (ECM). This functional site usually buried within molecular structure FN, but can be exposed by conformational changes and proteolytic cleavage. Peptide FNIII14 induce a change in β1-integrin active inactive form, causing inactivation. Based on this anti-adhesive activity, exhibits therapeutic potential for several diseases such as metabolic diseases, organ fibrosis, malignant tumors. blocks integrin-mediated signaling mechanism entirely distinct that conventional antagonisitic peptides, including Arg-Gly-Asp peptides competitively inhibit ECM binding integrin.

Synthesis of bioinorganic antimicrobial peptide nanoparticles with potential therapeutic properties.
Amphiphilicity and cationicity are properties shared between antimicrobial peptides and proteins that catalyze biomineralization reactions. Merging these two functionalities, we demonstrate a reaction where a cationic antimicrobial peptide catalyzes self-biomineralization within inorganic matrices. The resultant antimicrobial peptide nanoparticles retain biocidal activity, protect the peptide f...
متن کاملPhysiology and therapeutic potential of the thymic peptide thymulin.
Thymulin is a thymic hormone exclusively produced by the epithelial cells of the thymus. After its discovery and initial characterization in the '70s, it was demonstrated that the production and secretion of thymulin are strongly influenced by the neuro-endocrine system. Conversely, a growing body of evidence, to be reviewed here, suggests that thymulin is a hypophysiotropic peptide. Additional...
متن کاملGene Delivery Potential of Biofunctional Carbonate Apatite Nanoparticles in Lungs
Existing nonviral gene delivery systems to lungs are inefficient and associated with dose limiting toxicity in mammalian cells. Therefore, carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) nanoparticles were examined as an alternative strategy for effective gene delivery to the lungs. This study aimed to (1) assess the gene delivery efficiency of CO3Ap in vitro and in mouse lungs, (2) evaluate the cytotoxicity effect ...
متن کاملTherapeutic potential of human neutrophil peptide 1 against experimental tuberculosis.
The therapeutic efficacy of human neutrophil peptide 1 (HNP-1) against experimental tuberculosis in mice on the basis of numbers of CFU has been examined. Mice infected with 1.5 x 10(4) CFU of Mycobacterium tuberculosis H(37)Rv and treated with different doses of HNP-1 injected subcutaneously exhibited significant clearance of bacilli from lungs, livers, and spleens. There were time- and dose-d...

A designed peptide named LZ1 with 15 amino acid residues containing strong antimicrobial activity against bacteria pathogens of acne vulgaris including Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis and S. aureus. Especially, it exerted strong anti-P. acnes ability. The minimal inhibitory concentration against three strains of P. acnes was only 0.6 µg/ml, which is 4 times lower than that o...
